If you are interested in creating beautiful stones, you need to follow all of the rock tumbler instructions. Currently the most popular machine is the rotary drum. This drum has allowed people to produce amazing looking rocks that they can utilize to create crafts that are simply stunning in appearance.
The process takes at least one month to successfully complete. It would behoove you to keep records of the steps that you are performing with the rocks to ensure that you are following the instructions as directed. It will also give you a good idea of where each batch of rocks is in the process.
You will need to gather all the necessary materials you will need before you get started. Materials such as the machine, polishing compounds, plastic pellets, rocks, silicone carbide coarse and fine grits, and some water are all needed. The instructions that you will need to follow are pretty much to the point, you should not try to compromise one step in order to make the process go faster.
1. You will fill the machine 2/3 to 2/4 full of regular rocks. If you are short on the amount of rocks that you have you can utilize the plastic pellets as a filler.
2. Add water so that you can see it but not enough water to immerse the stones in. Just under the top layer of rocks is ideal.
3. Next add the coarse grit. Let the machine grind the rough gemstones until it has knocked off the sharp edges of the stones and the stones appear to look soft instead of jagged in appearance.
4. After finishing the initial grinding process, which will take anywhere around 12-24 hours to complete, you should remove the rocks and get rid of any extra debris that may have been left behind. Rinsing the rocks with water will get rid of any extra grit and debris.
5. You should repeat all of the steps, one after another, with different sized grit, for 4 consecutive weeks. After the coarse grit, use the fine grit, then a pre-polish, polishing compound and finally a burnishing process using soap (Ivory works great).
6. Stand back and marvel at the beautiful gemstones you have created!
As long as you follow all of these rock tumbler instructions you should end up coming out with shiny rocks that can be used to create a plethora of crafts.
Following the above rock tumbler instructions will result in stunning stones that you can take great pride in. Beauty takes a little time and a little bit of patience to create, but the results are well worth it.
