World health officials call for a ban on dietary supplements if scientific data do not allow a product’s status to be recognized as vitamin or mineral. Colloidal silver is an example of a product in the dietary supplement category.
Market Regulation – Banned From The Dance!
Ensuring that science uncovers the amount of nutrition in food supplements, the WHO and its partner the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) scrutinize vitamin and mineral supplements for the nations that make up the World Trade Organization (WTO). Products with low nutritional value are subject to a ban.
The duties of the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) have been associated with banning food products. The CCNFSDU certainly plays a prominent role and makes key decisions in the CODEX Commission about food supplement regulation. The latest banning allegedly performed by the CCNFSDU happened January of this new year in England.
Some CODEX officials want to ban vitamin and mineral supplements based on properties. Certain countries already ban colloidal silver in part for the effectiveness derived from having colloidal properties. The colloidal form of silver makes it easy to dilute. Dilution reduces the chance of toxic effects.
Colloidal Foods? What Are These?
Making a colloidal food is easy. Food and food supplements can be colloidal. Milk is a colloid people like to drink. And since colloidal particles are so small, colloids look like one substance but are two. It takes two substances to make a colloid. Egg whites plus chocolate milk whipped make a colloid. Toothpaste is a colloid.
Will CODEX officials ever ban foods based on colloidal properties? Yes, your favorite foods are colloids! There are too many colloidal foods to mention. Ice cream is a food colloid. Colloidal food products include toothpaste, butter and salad dressing. A food colloid is nanotechnology in your food pantry.
Certain circumstances have caused people to consider that food supplements should have regulations similar to pharmaceutical drugs. It is reported that Australia was an early adopter when it comes to this contentious subject. One reason people give for treating human food as drugs is because colloidal foods having properties similar to nanotechnology and scientists are keen on studying it. Mayonnaise is a food colloid.
International Regulation Becomes Local Law
Future food decisions will still be made locally, but will shrink in number. The FAO and the WHO will get involved more often at the local level. Member states are still waiting for the CODEX Commission to adopt final guidelines on vitamins and minerals. Afterward, more local food decisions will get decided internationally.
